EqualiTeach is delighted to announce that we have received funding from the Government Equalities Office Anti-HBT Bullying Fund to deliver Free to Be: a programme of work to support 30 London primary schools to be able to create LGBT+ inclusive environments, embed LGBT+ equality into the curriculum and effectively recognise and respond to Homophobic, Biphobic and Transphobic (HBT) bullying.

Free to Be will run from April 2019 – March 2020. Each participating school will be allocated an EqualiTeach representative who will work with them to create a bespoke package of support, which will include:

  • Advice and guidance to update policies
  • Training for all school staff
  • Practical help to embed LGBT+ equality throughout the school
  • Support in communicating the work to parents/carers
  • The creation of a network of peer support with other schools

Representatives will visit the school to meet with those working on the programme at regular points throughout the year and will be on hand to provide telephone and e-mail support.

We are recruiting schools to participate in the programme in February and March 2019.

The criteria for schools to participate in Free to Be is that you should be:

  • A primary school
  • Based in one of the following London boroughs: Barking and Dagenham, Brent, Enfield, Hackney, Hammersmith and Fulham, Islington, Kensington and Chelsea, Merton, Southwark, Tower Hamlets and Westminster
  • In the early stages of their work in promoting LGBT+ equality
  • Have not already received work through this programme in the past

If you are a school which meets this criteria and would be interested in finding out more information or in taking part in Free to Be, please contact Sarah Soyei – sarah@equaliteach.co.uk or telephone 01480 470660
